This engraving depicts the proposed vision for the academic building on the first campus of Butler University at present-day 13th Street and College Avenue near downtown Indianapolis. Originally designed to include a central tower with two adjoining wings, only a portion of the building was ever completed. The University Building was in use from the first day of classes in 1855 till 1875 when the University moved to Irvington. The building was demolished in 1910.
