"Tie-ing Together Sewing and Singing"

A number of friends of Ellis and Charlotte were unable to be in Goshen during the week following Ellis's death. Karen and I were in Florida visiting my parents, Jim and Charlene Beck, who are Zion Mennonite Church friends of the Croyles (of nearly 50 years!). During our trip to Florida, I happened to read an Elaine Sommers Rich column in the MWR stating how she liked to do something to mark the passing and honor a friend/family member for whom had died but she (Elaine) was not able to physically be present at the person's Memorial Service. So, I have hand-pieced a quilt in honor of Ellis and would like to invite others to join in the quilting, whether they were or were not a part of Ellis's Memorial Service. I've designed the quilt, "Ties on Oxford," in memory of Ellis's most common attire.

I would also like to "tie-in" singing with the quilting, as Ellis and Charlotte have sung for so many years in various choirs and musical groups. Singing with others, whether hymns, Shape-note music, with the Heisenberg Trio, is also a real joy and blessing for me. I hope you will consider joining in on enjoying some food (how did this get in here? - Can you say Peanut Butter Pie and Coffee! - Ellis's favorite), quilting, singing, and/or fellowship with Charlotte and family and the many other friends of the Croyles. May our time together honor the pastor, mentor, and dear friend that Ellis was to many of us.

I'm frequently asked the question "What are you going to do with the quilt when it's finished?" Honestly, I don't know. right now I'm just enjoying the process of peicing and "tie-ing" together the many memories in remembering a man whom I greatly admired. Rest in peace, Ellis.
