About the Journal
Focus and Scope
AcademFic was created by and for the many academics who are not in fields in which writing fiction is considered part of their professional work and expectations, but who do so nonetheless. Some of what academics write is longer or shorter, or different in scope and extent of detail, than what is sought for standard literary magazines and other such traditional venues for fiction. Graduate students, university professors, archaeologists, those who work in academic publishing, and others who fit under the umbrella of "academic" are welcome to submit their work.
Publisher
AcademFic is hosted and supported by the Butler University Libraries and PALNI Press.
Peer or Editorial Review Process
Submissions to AcademFic undergo peer review by editors and/or outside academic readers, regardless whether they are fiction, reviews, essays, or fit into any other category. The aim is to publish works of excellent quality that illustrate the range of creative output and usefulness of writing fiction for academics both as educators and as scholars, as well as to provide stories that entertain, inform, and provoke exploration of serious topics and ideas on the part of readers.Â
Publication Frequency
AcademFic is published online in open access form. Accepted submissions appear as soon as they have passed through the review process. Each year's stories will also be available for purchase in print form in the AcademFic Annual. Themed anthologies and customized printed anthologies for use in classes will also be available.
Open Access Policy
AcademFic is an open access periodical, which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the stories, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author, provided they do not change the stories or remove reference to the author and original place of publication.
